#24 2nd Corinthians 5:8-9 NIV

2nd Corinthians 5:8-9 NIV

We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we aim to please Him always, whether in the body or not.

11/30/06-12/02/06

We as Christians are confident in God and in His promises. We can be confident even in the face of death knowing that He has promised us eternal life. The moment we leave this body, we will be in His full and immediate presence in a way we cannot now even imagine. Because this is true, we can ever prefer to leave this body to be at home in heaven with our Lord and Savior. Since we love our Lord so much that we prefer death so that we might be with Him, then our aim will be to please Him always in everything we do, here in this body and forever in eternity. Every true follower of Christ should desire to make his or her life count to the glory of God. Those who live with this desire will find that God has worked this out in their lives – even the lives unnoticed by the world. May we pray, “Lord, work in our hearts so that our greatest ambition in life is to please You. Fill our hearts with confidence in our relationship with You and confidence in the face of suffering and death. Father, may all of Your children live in such a way that we are not only confident in You, but that we also prefer to leave this body so that we may be at home with You. May Your name ever be glorified in us and through us. Help us to seek Your will and Your face every day. We thank You for Your Spirit living in us and working in us. May we live for You by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Unto You, Lord, be all glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
